Tennessee Driving Records & Information

The Tennessee Department of Safety keeps records of each resident's driving record including traffic violations like DUI or reckless driving and any accident information. The information that appears on your driving record is provided to the DOS through police reports and the courts.

Unfortunately the Department of Safety website does not mention how long an offense like DUI will remain on a person's driving record. You may contact the Department of Safety at (615) 251-5166 to inquire further.

How do I obtain a copy of my TN driving record (MVR)?

You or anyone that you give permission to may obtain a copy of your driving record by requesting a copy in person at any one of the state's full service Driver Services Centers. You will need to provide them with your full name, date of birth and your driver's license number.

If you are going to have someone other than yourself obtain a copy of your driving record you will need to provide the Driver Service Center Examiner with a notarized statement that authorizes the other person to obtain a copy of your driving record.

There is a $5 fee for obtaining a copy of your driving record whether or not your request is made in person or by mail. If you are not able to go to your local Driver Services Center in person you may also request a copy of your driving record by mail. Mail your request to:

Tennessee Department of Safety
MVR Request
P.O. Box 945
Nashville, TN 37202

If you mail in your request it may take several weeks before you receive a copy of your Tennessee MVR in the mail.
